***************************** COMPILING HINTS ****************************
These comments apply on the basis that you use the standard "cc" compiler
with no flags. To compile the mud type "cc main.c". To run it just type
"a.out" - you do not need a '&' since it places itself in the background
automatically.

AIX (IBM RS6000):
Should compile with no problems (since it was developed on AIX and OSF/1).
If it doesn't then there's something wrong with your system setup.

OSF/1 (DEC alpha):
Ditto AIX.

SunOS/Solaris:
Should compile on SunOS 4 but I don't know about Solaris (SunOS 5).

Mach (Next):
Compiles but crashes with "Bus error" on running. This appears to be due
to the toupper() function bombing out when given an element of a string.
I don't know if this is a general problem for Next machines or whether
the machine I tried it on had a fault. At any rate, if you're a regular
NeXT user you're probably aware of this problem and know how to fix it.

HP-UX (HP 9000):
You will get "automatic aggregate initialisation is an ANSI feature" errors.
This waffle means it can't compile stuff like "char *gen[]={ "male","female" }"
if its inside a function. To rectify this change it to:

char gen[2][7];
strcpy(gen[0],"male");
strcpy(gen[1],"female");

I could have written the mud like this anyway but its messy and besides
the HP-UX compiler is an awkward bastard. Don't bother with the cc -Aa ansi
option either. Its a total no hoper. There may be a compiler switch I don't
know about that will compile it but I no longer have access to an HP machine
so I can't find out about it.
You may also need to add "#undef feof" in globals.h
Basically you'll have a hell of a time trying to get this to compile on
HP-UX.

SCO:
The SCO machine I tried it on had some missing socket libraries but it seems
the mud would have compiled successfully otherwise.

Linux:
Not tested on this unix.

---------------------------
Gcc compiler:
Dunno - never tried it. We don't have enough room here to down load it. :-(
